Real Madrid's last piece of silverware was the 2019-20 LaLiga title under Zidane

Real Madrid ended an 18 month wait for a trophy on Sunday as they beat Athletic Club 2-0 to win the Spanish Supercopa in Saudi Arabia.

It had been 549 days since Madrid had won silverware, the 2019-20 LaLiga title, but goals from Luka Modric and Karim Benzema helped them get back among the trophies.

Madrid won the 2019-20 LaLiga on July 16 2020 when they beat Villarreal at the Estadi Alfredo Di Stefano. Madrid, coached by Zinedine Zidane at the time, had won 10 games in a row since the league was halted due to the pandemic.

Since then, Madrid have won nothing. They ended 2020-21 without a trophy, with Sunday's Supercopa success ending what had been a mini-drought compared to recent seasons.

It's the 12th time Madrid have won the Supercopa. Modric and Benzema, via the penalty spot, got the goals, while Thibaut Courtois was also a hero after saving a late Raul Garcia penalty.

Madrid last won the Supercopa in 2020, beating Atletico in the final, while Athletic won it last season after overcoming Barcelona in the final in Seville.

This season, Madrid knocked out Barça and Athletic beat Atletico to make the final.
