Luka Modric annoyed with Real Madrid over his future

| sport

Luka Modric's future was revealed by the player some time ago. "I want to stay at Real Madrid, but only for what I deserve," he said in mid-February. The Croatian has earned the right to continue, and the club would have understood this by offering him one more season despite being 37 years old. A deal that was virtually finalised in the absence of a signature, although sources close to the player claim that it has been signed. However, Madrid have not made the agreement official, as with Kroos and Nacho, who have also confirmed that they want to continue.

Modric's statement has been repeated on different occasions. He feels strong enough to continue competing at the highest level, as he is demonstrating in the Nations League with Croatia in his 65th game this season, 13 with his national team and 52 with Real Madrid. His professionalism is beyond doubt, as is his commitment.

But doubts about his continuity hover over the golden offer presented to him by Saudi Arabian football, with a contract of 200 million net for three seasons, plus a bonus of 20 million. A very attractive offer, but he prefers to remain at Real Madrid, although he could change his mind at the last minute as he is tired of the situation, as Mbappé did a year ago taking advantage of the fact that there was nothing signed.

These rumours are starting to bother the player. It bothers him that they doubt his commitment, his idea of staying at Real Madrid. "I've already said many times what I think on the subject," the Croatian insists from Holland, tired of the club remaining silent, perhaps fearful that he will follow in the footsteps of Benzema.

The Frenchman did breach that commitment by breaking his link with Real Madrid in exchange for Saudi petrodollars. The club has not voiced any criticism of that decision, despite the fact that it has wrecked their plans for this season, forcing the hunt for a replacement.

It is as if Real Madrid are promoting the idea that they prefer him to leave. They don't tackle the rumour mill by delaying the renewal announcements of Modric, Kroos and Nacho with just two weeks left on their contracts. All three have expressed their desire to continue, and they are beginning to suspect that it may be the club that is hesitating to renew deals of three of the players who have written the team's history over the last decade.

The only doubt the Croatian has is whether to continue or hang up his boots with his national team, but his idea is still to stay in the top flight before seeking refuge in a secondary level of the game where players of the calibre of Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo have already headed.
