Lopetegui, Solari & Zidane: the ridiculous numbers behind Madrid's season

The value of Zinedine Zidane as a coach reduces every day. The Frenchman returned to Real Madrid as their saviour after winning three successive Champions League but the current campaign he completed the ridicule which began with Julen Lopetegui and Santi Solari, his predecessors. In fact, Zidane proved even worse than Solari, if slightly better than Lopetegui. 

Zidane has managed Madrid 11 times in the league this season. Throughout these games, Los Blancos have picked up 17 points, while Barça have earned 24. Said in other words, Ernesto Valverde's bettered Zizou by seven points. The balance of goals speaks for itself; 16 goals for and 14 against, for a goal difference of +2. It's especially alarming to see Madrid fail to score even 1.5 goals per game (1.45). 

The points average per game under Zidane this season has been 1.54, just slightly better than the 1.4 Lopetegui managed in the first 10 games of the season. Barça also bettered Julen by seven points in those games. In terms of goals, the ex-Spain coach's Madrid side managed 1.4 per game, almost the same as Zidane. 

But it's Solari's numbers which reveal the most, the man who Zidane replaced after Madrid's Champions League KO against Ajax in March. In 17 league games, Solari earned 37 points, an average of 2.17 per game, 0.6 more than Zidane. The Argentine coach's goal statistics were better, too: 1.94 goals scored per game and 1.06 conceded for a goal difference of +15. During his time in charge, Solari lost five points on Barça, two less than Zidane. 

In total, Madrid have lost 12 times in La Liga this season. Four under Lopetegui, four under Solari and four more under Zidane.
