Atletico Madrid CEO Miguel Ángel Gil Marín revealed that Koke signed a pre-contract agreement with Real Madrid when he was just 12 and that he had to fight to keep the midfielder at the club.
"It cost me to keep hold of Koke at a moment when he had a pre-agreement with Real Madrid," Gil said in an interview with Onda Cero. "I had to speak with a lot of people to undo that."
Marin also spoke about Barcelona's failed move for Saul Niguez in the summer.
Veteran midfielder Gabi and full-back Juanfran were also talked about, with the former out of contract in the summer and the latter in talks over a new deal.
"Gabi signed an agreement [for a new deal] a while ago and we're talking with Juanfran," he added.
