The Uruguayan lamped Villarreal midfielder Alex Baena

The president of LaLiga, Javier Tebas, has decided to comment on the controversy surrounding Fede Valverde's assault on Alex Baena. Although the incident took place after the match, Tebas confirmed at the press conference held together with Alejandro Irarragorri, president of Real Sporting de Gijón, that the Anti-Violence Commission will come in to analyse the case and propose a possible sanction.

"It is still an incident and an aggression that takes place in the car parks of a La Liga stadium," he began, while at all times condemning the incident. He did not confirm whether or not Baena had provoked Valverde prior to the aggression.

"I believe that while provocation is a mitigating factor, it is never a justification for the act. That must be very clear. Of course it is a reprehensible action. We cannot compare an assault with a possible provocation," said Tebas.

We will have to wait to see the extent of the possible sanction against Valverde and whether the rumours are finally confirmed or dismissed, with Baena denying he said anything of the sort.
