Gareth Bale will earn more than Cristiano Ronaldo at Real Madrid

The Welshman has officially agreed a massive new deal with the European Champions

Gareth Bale has renewed his Real Madrid contract. The club made it official through a press release on Sunday and the player will speak on Monday at a press conference. His contract, which was due to expire in 2019, will not run until 2022, although the numbers involved in the deal were not released by the club.

However, hours after his renewal was confirmed, the figures were leaking in England. And they’re figures which Cristiano Ronaldo, who’s also set to renew his deal with Madrid soon, is unlikely to like. With his new deal, according to the British media, Bale will be the top earner at the Santiago Bernabeu.

According to The Guardian, Bale’s 2022 contract “will make him the best-paid player in the world. He will earn 166 million euros (150 million pounds) over the next six years in salaries and bonuses.”

According to the same information, “negotiations over an extension have been continuing for several months between Real and Bale’s representative, Jonathan Barnett, with an agreement reached a few weeks ago. It is understood the contract is worth more than 600,000 pounds a week before tax with the buyout clause set at one billion euros.

“It is believed to be one of the biggest in the history of the sport. That is the equivalent to around 350,000 pounds a week after tax, more than the estimated 288,000 pounds Real pay Cristiano Ronaldo. Negotiations over a new deal for the Portuguese have not yet been finalised.”

The Sun, meanwhile, talk of numbers even higher than that.
