Florentino Perez ignores Madrid's socios as Bernabeu renewal kicks on

The president of the club has no plans to ask members for their thoughts on renewing the stadium

Florentino Perez continues to display his dictatorial attitude at Real Madrid. The latest proof of that came in the press conference he held on Tuesday to talk about the regeneration of the Santiago Bernabeu. "Neither the investment nor the change of name need to be approved by the socios," the president of Los Blancos said.

Perez presented the designs along with the mayor of Madrid, Manuela Carmena, and talked about the agreement between the club and the council for the New Santiago Bernabeu, which won't see an increased capacity. In the press conference he explained that it will cost 400 million euros and that the socios will have nothing to object given that, according to Perez, it is in their interests. Not even about the fact that the financing for the project comes from Abu Dhabi-based IPIC (International Petroleum Investment Company).

Among the planned reforms, Perez has decided that the club's offices, currently situated at the Bernabeu, will be moved to Valdebebas, where the training ground is, so they will gain 8,000 square meters for "other uses". He didn't specify what uses they would be. For all the work that is planned, the only thing that Florentino has in mind is not to directly participate. "The only restriction is that my company cannot be involved," the president assured.

He also said: "This plan will also improve the whole area around of the stadium. The neighbours will be able to enjoy a more sustainable remodelled environment. During our 114 years history we have wanted to be at the high level of Madrid and it's people. From today we are facing a new challenge. We will have the best stadium and we are doing it for Real Madrid, our fans and this city."
