The club's move for Neymar is a media smokescreen for their real plans

Real Madrid have made Kylian Mbappe an objective for next season. The reports about the club’s interest in Neymar have been a smokescreen for their real intentions.

Mbappe was on their agenda last summer but Paris Saint-Germain beat them to the signing. The Ligue 1 winners took the forward from Monaco on loan with an option to sign him this July for 180 million euros.

In principle, it seemed like a strategy from PSG to not break FIFA’s Financial Fair Play rules after they’d signed Neymar for €222 million. However, seeing Madrid’s plans, the situation could be different.

In recent weeks, stories about Madrid’s interest in Neymar have grown, rumours which the club have not denied. It was the Brazilian who said the speculation was “annoying” and Lionel Messi who said it would be a “blow” to Barcelona if the deal went through.

PSG have also insisted that Neymar will not leave and it’s not the first time the possibility of Mbappe leaving has been raised.

The motive is that Madrid want Mbappe, a forward who would better respond to the needs of Zinedine Zidane, who has had to admit that Karim Benzema’s lacking a punch and Cristiano Ronaldo is reaching the end of his career.
