The French defender is motivated by wanting to take on a new challenge elsewhere

While Real Madrid continue to wait for a conclusion to the Sergio Ramos contract saga, president Florentino Perez's problems in defence are multiplying.

According to AS, Raphael Varane has decided to leave Madrid, a decision he's been considering for months and has reached in recent weeks.

A key part of Zinedine Zidane's side, the French centre-back sees his future away from the club and there's little they can do to change his mind.

They will either have to sell him this summer if they want to make money on him, or he can leave for free in 2022 when his contract expires.

Varane is motivated by the idea of trying something new, mainly in the Premier League. It's not a decision motivated by money but by the desire for a new personal challenge.

The defender will have offers from the biggest teams in England. Madrid know his intention as they have been made clear to them by Varane's people.

Keeping in mind Ramos' future is also in the air -- he is out of contract in June -- the signing of David Alaba becomes a priority. The versatile Bayern Munich man is available for free this summer.

In addition, Seville defender Jules Kounde and Villarreal's Pau Torres are also players liked by the club, with movements expected at the back this summer.
