Bayern Munich defender David Alaba will be a free agent next summer and clubs can sign him from January. Bayern don't want to pay him the 25m euros a year he wants. Barcelona can't afford that. Real Madrid are paying attention. They want to bring in a centre-back, and the Austrian has been playing there for Bayern.
Inter are also interested, but agent Pini Zahavi wants to bring him to Real Madrid. The Israeli tried to do the same with Robert Lewandowski but Bayern refused to sell.
The Austrian is left footed, unlike Varane and Militao, so would work well on the left side, where captain Sergio Ramos operates. He can also be used at left back and centre midfield, positions where Madrid could use reinforcement. His signing suits the team all over. Madrid won't pay 25m euros a year but may get to 20, putting him behind the top earners - Hazard, Ramos, Kroos and Marcelo, and level with the next tier - Courtois, Benzema and Modric.
