UEFE feel the right-back forced his yellow card vs. Apoel

He will miss the first leg of Real Madrid's round-of-16 tie

After being banned for Wednesday's game against Borussia Dortmund, Dani Carvajal will also miss the first leg of the Champions League round-of-16. Real Madrid will find out who they meet in the knockout rounds on Monday.

In the final minutes of Madrid's win against Apeol two weeks ago, with Los Blancos leading 6-0, Carvajal wasted time when taking a throw in, forcing the referee to show him a yellow card. It was his third booking of the competition and led to a one game ban, in theory the game against Dortmund.

However, UEFA opened a case against the right-back with the understanding that he forced the booking so he could miss a game which had no importance to where Madrid would finish in the group. And European football's governing body, on Thursday, have decided to award him a two game ban. The first has already passed, against Dortmund, and the second will be in the last 16.

It remains to be seen if Madrid will appeal UEFA's decision.
