Cristiano Ronaldo, protagonist in another scandal in Portugal

Citizens are fed up with the omnipresence of Cristiano in their lives

The government has now asked for a report to study the viability of it

The regional government of the Madeira Islands are having trouble renaming the international airport of Funchal after Cristiano Ronaldo. It was a measure they tried to take without consulting the citizens. It has become a national scandal. The complaints have reached the Assembly of the Republic, forcing the government to request several legal reports on the matter.

It's not the first time the citizens of Madeira have got up in arms about the omnipresence of Cristiano Ronaldo in their public lives. There is already a bronze statue, three metres tall, of the Madrid star.

The regional government wanted to take advantage of the La Liga break for internationals to have Ronaldo 're-open' the airport - but for now that will have to be suspended.
