Clasico: In Madrid they are crying over the appointment of Clos Gomez

There is cynicism in Madrid over the appointment of Clos Gomez to the game with some not believing he will be impartial

With 16 days to go ahead of the Clasico some sectors of the Madrid media are starting to put a focus on Clos Gomez, the referee chosen for the game on December 3 at Camp Nou.

In OK Diario, for example, they discuss the referee’s ability. “The most anti-Madridista referee still active,” they wrote, adding “they have already scored the first goal past Madrid in the clasico, more than a goal, a golazo, and it wasn’t the MSN.”

ABC, meanwhile, were less obvious but the message was similar. “He’s the referee that Real Madrid like least and he has been chosen to take charge of the game on December 3”, they wrote of the “controversial designation”.

The reason for these complains is that Barcelona have never lost under him, 17 wins and three draws, while Los Blancos have lost with him four times and drawn five of the 27 games they have played.

He is the only referee that has sent off Luka Modric in the 517 games of the Croatian’s professional career. He also dismissed Kaka, another player who usually plays cleanly and doesn’t see many cards.

Close Gomez also upset Mourinho, who back in the day made a list of 13 errors which he made. AS also wrote that he is a “referee with whom Barcelona have never lost the Clasico” and Tomas Roncero said: “May god save my Madrid, a certain defeat”.

The referee has taken charge of three Clasicos with two wins for Barcelona and one draw. The 3-2 Spanish Super Cup win at Camp Nou, the 3-4 win at the Bernabeu and the 1-1 draw in the Copa del Rey.

Curiously Clos Gomez was involved in a scuffle with Pep Guardiola, one of the few times the coach has criticised an official, whom he accused of lying.
