The right-back looked back on a difficult season for Madrid

Real Madrid right-back Dani Carvajal has spoken to Marca about the side's disappointing season. As well as being self critical, the Spain international was asked about Gerard Pique's revelations that Barcelona players mock certain journalists in their Whatsapp group.

Here are some of Carvajal's comments:

Self criticism. "Things haven't come off, it's football, but we haven't been at our best. For whatever reason, I don't know what to tell you. I don't think any of us have been at our optimum level. We've been playing together for many years and we know each other. That's been the key behind not figthing for anything this season.

Mark for the season: "I'm not one for giving ratings. I would give myself a four. I link myself to the group and we have not done well."

Whatsapp: "No, [we don't do things like Pique said], at Madrid we're more cautious. The administrator is Sergio [Ramos] and we're a group of friends. Some videos are sent but we try to just have a sense of humour. It's called 'First Team 2018-2019.'"

Ajax loss: "At 2-0 at half time, in the dressing room we all knew we had to step up and step forward. And I think the third goal killed us. At that moment, a goal would have levelled the tie, but [with the third goal] it wasn't such an easy task. We weren't finding spaces but even for a 'bad game' I think we had four or five good chances. But nothing came off. It's football. [Ajax] were better and that's why they're in the quarters."
