Carlo Ancelotti: Asensio did not touch it with his hand, it has been invented

The Real Madrid coach could not believe a penalty was awarded against his team

Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti kicked off about the refereeing in his team’s 1-1 draw at home against Girona, mainly complaining about the penalty given against Marco Asensio.

“He did not touch the ball with his hand” said Ancelotti. “They invented it.”

The Italian coach, usually more reserved, was in angry mode after the game.

“I don’t like to talk about this a lot but today I talk,” he said. “The first situation is quite clear, it’s not a penalty because he didn’t touch the ball with his hand.

“I spoke with Asensio and he touched the ball with his chest, it’s true he had the left hand in a strange position, but it covered the body, it didn’t make it bigger. There could have been doubt if it touched it, but simply he didn’t touch the ball with his hand, they invented it.”

He at least understood the decision to cancel Rodrygo’s goal, for kicking the ball out from under the keeper when he had his hand on it.

“The second is more debatable because the goalkeeper doesn’t have total control of the ball with his hand, but you can blow for it, I won’t argue. What surprises me is the penalty, it arrived at a key moment in the game.”
