Cadiz 0-3 Real Madrid: Benzema brace steers Blancos top for now

Zindane's side have played more games than their title rivals but lead the table overnight

Real Madrid beat Cadiz 3-0 to temporarily move top of the La Liga table on Wednesday night.

Karim Benzema scored twice and Alvaro Odriozola was also on target as Zinedine Zidane's side bounced back from Sunday's goalless draw against Getafe.

Madrid now have 70 points, the same as Atletico Madrid but sit top courtesy of their superior head-to-head record.

Atletico have a game in hand against Huesca on Thursday.

Sevilla, meanwhile, moved third, ahead of Barcelona with a 1-0 win against Levante earlier on Wednesday.

Barça can return to third if they beat Getafe on Thursday and will move ahead of Madrid if they win their two games in hand.

Madrid's goals against Cadiz came in a 10-minute flurry before half-time.

Karim Benzema opened the scoring from the penalty spot after half an hour following a VAR review for a foul on Vinicius Jr.

Odriozola added the second later and Benzema completed the scoring five minutes before half-time to take his tally in the league to 21 for the season.

Madrid are back in action on Saturday, when they host Real Betis.
