The Welsh winger recently scored his 100th goal for the club but continues to battle Vinicus for a starting role

Gareth Bale recently scored his 100th goal for Real Madrid but his role at the club isn't as the main star, as he had hoped, following the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo.

It seems as if he's been overtaken by another teammate this season and has found himself on the bench for important matches such as El Clasico at the Camp Nou. Vinicius and Lucas Vazquez are first choice on the wings while Benzema remains the team's lone striker. Bale didn't come on until the 64th minute when he replaced young Vinicius.

The Brazilian's fine form has seen Bale's role questioned. In the four matches he's replaced Vinicius, the Welsh man has scored two goals as he looks to regain what he feels is his spot.

Bale is obsessed about scoring a goal or producing a moment of magic to prove his worth but it's working against the strengths of the collective.

His introverted personality doesn't fit well with the rest of the group and this is on top of his horrid injury record. Since Bale's latest setback, he's played five matches but four of them were sub appearances. These are the same injuries which have stopped him from replicating the form which saw Real Madrid spend a then world record fee for the winger.

Solari is backing him to succeed and wants Vinicius and Bale to share the same place. With competition for his role once again, it's up to Bale to show what he's capable of. However his future remains a real unknown. Supporters have been open to selling him since last summer, when Florentino opted to let go of Cristiano instead. It's also said to be the cause of Zidane's sudden departure as he wanted assurances Cristiano would stay and Bale be sold.
