Madrid kept within three points of Barça with a good win at San Mames
Real Madrid beat Athletic Club 2-0 at San Mames on Sunday to keep the pressure on LaLiga leaders Barcelona.
Xavi Hernandez's Barça side moved six points clear at the top with a 1-0 win against Getafe earlier in the day, but Madrid responded in Bilbao.
Karim Benzema and Toni Kroos were on target as Carlo Ancelotti's team remained three points back from Barca at the top.
Ancelotti rewarded Dani Ceballos for his performance in the Copa del Rey comeback at Villarreal with a start, with Kroos and Luke Modric left among the substitutes.
In a competitive game, Benzema opened the scoring in 24th minute to move level with Raul on 228 LaLiga goals for Madrid, a figure only bettered by Cristiano Ronaldo.
Athletic had an equaliser ruled out for offside after the break before substitute Kroos sealed the win in the last minute.
