Ancelotti tempted to make a move for Benzema

The Italian coach wants Benzema to lead the attack at his new club Napoli and is willing to match Real Madrid's asking price

Real Madrid's French striker, Karim Benzema, is enjoying his summer holidays far away from the football pitch. Isolated from the French national side after the 'Valbuena Case' he'll watch the World Cup on TV and later join up with Real Madrid for preseason training. However, Carlo Ancelotti wants the Frenchman to lead the attack at his new club Napoli ahead of the upcoming campaign.

Benzema doesn't have any intention of leaving Real Madrid, he has a contract which runs until 2021, but it doesn't depend solely on the will of the player. The new project at Los Blancos depends on who comes in to take over as their head coach and then whether Benzema is part of that said coach's plans. His irregular form has seen him receive plenty of criticism and with Zinedine Zidane no longer there, he's now been left somewhat unprotected.

FLORENTINO Perez will decide

At Napoli they are prepared to pay the €70m asking price that Real Madrid have set, according to 'CaughtOffside'. The final decision will come from Florentino Perez who has a soft spot for the French striker. However, the chairman knows that Benzema hasn't performed as well as expected and his lack of goals is a cause for concern.

Madrid need to strengthen their attack. With Cristiano Ronaldo's future still up in the air, Benzema isn't someone capable of filling the gap left by the Portuguese superstar. This would force Madrid into making a significant move in the transfer market to sign a player who could guarantee them a certain level of firepower. The French striker will be 31 in December and you can't disregard an opportunity to sell him for €70m. That kind of money would greatly help fund a move for a new man to lead their attack.
