Despite feeling invincible after last season's success Real Madrid have only won one of their first three matches

The club continues to complain about referees and has already had three players sent off this year

While Real Madrid fans are still celebrating the recent titles and the arrival of Asensio and Isco onto the scene, the reality is that the current situation is not as good for Madrid as they claim.

With two consecutive draws in La Liga, Real Madrid are having the worst home start to a season since 1988. They were unable to beat Valencia and Levante, and had to settle for draws – meaning they are already four points behind Barça. Barça, in contrast, have a perfect record despite the bad atmosphere that surrounded the club all summer.

Results aside, Real Madrid’s three captains – Sergio Ramos, Cristiano Ronaldo and Marcelo – have already been sent off this season despite the team only having played six games. And despite Florentino Perez’s complaints about referees, the fact is that all three have been sent off for unnecessary offences.

Ronaldo was given a second yellow card for diving – perhaps harshly for once – and then pushed the referee in a fit of pique earning himself a five match suspension. His first yellow though had been for taking his shirt off to celebrate a goal.

Against Deportivo, Ramos was booked for putting his hand in Schar’s face and received a second booking for a stray elbow on Broja Valle.

And this Saturday, Marcelo was sent off for kicking the Levante player Lerma off the ball.
