The Dutchman thinks if he had Giroud, things would have been very different

Everton lost Lukaku but Giroud didn't want to live in Liverpool

Ronaldo Koeman said he would not have been sacked by Everton if he had been able to sign Olivier Giroud as Romelu Lukaku's replacement.

The Belgian striker moved to Mancheser United and Everton wanted the Arsenal hitman to replace him.

"I had Olivier Giroud in the building," said Koeman to Voetbal International. "That was hard to swallow."

"That would have been perfect but he decided he'd rather live in London. You tell me where you can get a better striker."

He lamented the loss of Lukaku.

"Lukaku was important to us, not only because of his goals, but because of his way of playing - strong, quick, direct," said Koeman.

"There was always the option of the long ball to him. Now we missed such a player, we had Nicola Vlasic and Wayne Rooney, players who want the ball in to feet."
