Marc Cucurella and his comeback at Chelsea after rough patch

| sport

Marc Cucurella landed at Stamford Bridge last season, having become one of the best full-backs in the Premier League at Brighton. He arrived to be the starting left-back of the new and appetizing project that Todd Boehly was kicking off. But things may not always turn out as one imagines.

What looked set to be a great campaign with a team destined to be fighting for the title turned into a ship without direction, without a roadmap, with changes of coach and with a roster of players who were coming and going from the team. Among them, Marc Cucurella himself. The former Barça youth team player did not become the undisputed starter and was moving between left-back, the wing and the position of left center back. All without any continuity and without any sense, as was the project.

At this point and after a season of many ups and downs, Cucu was very close to jumping ship. Manchester United needed a left-back, knocked on his door and the full-back was keen on a move to Old Trafford. Both parties were interested and had a deal in place. However, Chelsea prevented the deal from being completed, something that, months later, has proved to be a great decision for the club.

After closing the door definitively to the exit in summer and after a very positive talk with Mauricio Pochettino at the beginning of the season, the Alella again feel important in a set 'blue' that begins to resurface. Coincidentally, at the same pace as Cucu himself. The former Barça player did not start the season as a starter, but his perseverance in his work and that conversation with 'Poche' made him keep fighting to be more than ready when the opportunity came. Whatever position he was in.

And the opportunity has finally arrived in recent weeks. With Chilwell and Colwill able to play left-back, Cucurella has adapted perfectly to the right-back position and has given a great performance, proving that he is a player capable of playing almost everywhere.

He had already played as a winger, inside back, left back and even center back. Now, Pochettino has used him on the right and, coincidence or not, since he has been installed in the starting lineup Chelsea has won three consecutive victories. The coach is starting to build what is his most reliable eleven and in it, for the moment, appears a Marc Cucurella ready to demonstrate his class.
