City had scouts in Austria for Napoli's Champions League game against Salzburg

A new challenger has joined the race for Fabian Ruiz. Manchester City are very interested in the young Spain midfielder, who has taken giants steps forward since swapping Real Betis for Napoli.

His form in Italy for Carlo Ancelotti's side has seen him earn a regular spot in Robert Moreno's La Roja side. It has also drawn interest from Barcelona and Real Madrid.

Pep Guardiola's City sent a scout to watch Fabian in the Champions League in midweek. He played in midfield as Napoli beat Austrian side Red Bull Salzburg 3-2 to consolidate their place at the top of their group, ahead of Liverpool.

City feel he's a similar player to David Silva, who can create in the final third. However, Fabian can also play deeper. He's well liked by Guardiola.

But it won't be easy for City to land him. The English champions don't have a good history of negotiating with Napoli -- they missed out on Jorginho to Chelsea -- and they also face competition from Barça and Madrid.
