For the last fifteen days, Villarreal and Aston Villa have been negotiating the transfer of Pau Torres. The deal was practically closed last week, but the recent wedding of the player meant it was only made official this Wednesday.

According to EFE, the transfer has been closed for 33 million euros fixed, 5 million euros in variables and a percentage of a future sale. Torres has been a player who has been talked about in this summer market and has attracted the attention of several teams due to his great performance with Villarreal last season and his call-up to the Spanish national team.

The player has joined Unai Emery's side, with whom he spent just over two seasons at Villarreal, signing a contract that ties him to the English club for the next five years. The transfer was announced today on Aston Villa's social media with a welcome message. Villarreal have also posted numerous videos on Twitter saying goodbye to the player and recalling his long spell at the club.

Pau Torres, born in Villarreal, has played 20 seasons for the Yellow Submarine and has played more games than any other player at all levels of the club. His transfer fee represents one of the most expensive the club has ever taken, 35 million euros, second only to Cedric Bakambu who was sold for around 40 million.

Torres, 26, who still had time on his contract at the club, decided it is time to leave his hometown team and start a new adventure in England. His departure comes two weeks after the transfer of striker Nicolas Jackson to Chelsea.
