The English coach has been dismissed after Saturday's loss to Aston Villa

It's official. Graham Potter is no longer Chelsea's manager. The defeat at home against Aston Villa has cost the English coach his job. The club announced the news in an official statement on Sunday. Bruno Saltor, the former Brighton player, will take the reins of the team as interim coach.

"Graham has agreed to work with the club to facilitate a smooth transition. In his time at the club, he has taken us to the quarter-finals of the Champions League, where we will face Real Madrid. The club would like to thank Graham for all his efforts and contributions and wish him all the best for the future," a statement said.

Owner Todd Boehly's project is blown out of the water just days before the Champions League clash with Real Madrid. It is the latest unexpected and improvised decision by a team whose presence in Europe next season is practically ruled out.

Pressure from the board finally broke the back of a bold and exciting project that began seven months ago with Potter taking the helm after his departure from Brighton. Thomas Tuchel, who was also sacked this season, would be the last of the Abramovich era. A third manager will now have to take the reins for the remainder of the campaign.

Nagelsmann?

With Potter out, the question now is who could be his successor in the Chelsea dugout. The name that has the Blues excited is that of Julian Nagelsmann, who is unemployed after being sacked by Bayern Munich. The German coach's profile is well-liked by the Blues' board and he could be the man chosen to turn the team's situation around.
