He will replace interim boss Ralf Rangnick at the end of the current season

Manchester United have confirmed the appointment of Ajax coach Erik ten Hag as the club's new manager.

Ten Hag, 52, will replace interim boss Ralf Rangnick at the end of the season and has signed a contract at Camp Nou until 2025.

“It is a great honour to be appointed manager of Manchester United and I am hugely excited by the challenge ahead," Ten Hag said.

"I know the history of this great club and the passion of the fans, and I am absolutely determined to develop a team capable of delivering the success they deserve.

“It will be difficult to leave Ajax after these incredible years, and I can assure our fans of my complete commitment and focus on bringing this season to a successful conclusion before I move to Manchester United.”

Ten Hag has been at Ajax since 2017, taking them to the semifinal of the Champions League in 2019, where they lost to Tottenham, and winning two Eredivisie titles in that time.

He will remain in Amsterdam until the end of the season, with Ajax currently top of the league, five points clear of PSV Eindhoven with five games to be played.

Prior to arriving at Ajax, he coached Utrecht, Bayern Munich's second team and the Go Ahead Eagles following a playing career spent largely at Twente.
