Jonas Gutierrez on target as Newcastle beat West Ham to send Hull City down

Newcastle United avoided relegation from the Premier League on the last day of the season by beating West Ham 2-0 at St. James' Park, with Hull City joining Burnley and QPR in the bottom three.

Moussa Sissoko scored the first goal, but the real story was the second goal.

With five minutes to go, Jonas Gutierrez, who this season made a heroic return to football after having cancer, struck his side's second goal of the game.

It eased Newcastle's fears of dropping into the Championship, as they could have still been relegated by a draw.

However, in the end it didn't matter what they did as Hull City were unable to beat Manchester United.

Steve Bruce's side threw everything at it, but in the end had to settle for a 0-0 draw at the KC Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Tottenham beat Everton to gain entry into Europe as well, with Southampton, who lost to Manchester City, missing out on the final day.
