According to AS, the Spanish coach wants the Spanish stopper

Casillas has lost his place in the Porto team this season

Iker Casillas is close to leaving Porto and signing for Newcastle, where Rafa Benitez is waiting for him with open arms. That's according to a report in AS, who say the Spanish goalkeeper is wanted in England.

After losing his place to Jose Sa in Portugal, Casillas has been linked with a move away from the club he joined from Real Madrid.

Despite having a contract until the end of the season, the stopper may decide it's best to move on in January, with Benitez looking for someone to replace Karl Darlow in goal.

Newcastle, who've dropped down the Premier League table after picking up just one point in their last six games, have conceded 22 goals this season.

Therefore, Benitez is looking to strengthen at the back, starting with a goalkeeper and Casillas, who didn't work with the former Liverpool boss during his brief spell at the Santiago Bernabeu in 2015.
