Guardiola names his successor at Manchester City: Burnley boss Kompany

Pep Guardiola is facing the final stretch of his seventh season with Manchester City. The Catalan coach continues with his project at the Premier League side and the doubts about his future have been dispelled after he signed a contract extension until 2025 last November.

However, Guardiola has already named the man he would like to be his successor at City... and he is an old acquaintance of the fans.

Manchester City were drawn against Burnley in the quarterfinal of the FA Cup, which will see them come up against Vincent Kompany, who is in charge of the Clarets.

It gave Guardiola a chance to talk about his former pupil on Friday.

Kompany took over as Burnley manager last summer. His good work in the Championship (in which they are 19 points ahead of Middlesbrough in third) practically assures them of their presence in the next Premier League and there are already many who praise the work of the Belgian, among them his former coach: Guardiola.

Asked about the work of his future FA Cup rival, Guardiola has praised Kompany and named him as his future successor in the City dugout: "He will be back sooner or later. His destiny to be Manchester City manager is written in the stars. It's going to happen, I don't know when, but I'm pretty sure it will happen."

The Catalan coach praised his work at Burnley and explained why he sees him as a future manager of City: "To do what he has done is very difficult and he is doing it very well. He knows the club, the atmosphere, the fans, what our people need. The destiny is there."
