City look to sell players before signing Harry Kane

It's no secret that Manchester City are desperate to sign Harry Kane, and that they will keep trying to bring him to the Etihad Stadium until the end of the window. For now, however, they haven't got close to testing Spurs chairman Daniel Levy's resolve, meaning no progress has been made on his signing.

Guardiola knows that he may need to sell a few players in order to make space for Kane in the squad. One such player could be Bernardo Silva, who Guardiola has admitted wants to leave the club. When asked about the Portuguese international's desire to leave, Guardiola said "It's not just him. There are two or three players who want to leave. We're open to offers".

Bernardo Silva has been told that he would be allowed to leave the club this summer as long as an acceptable offer comes in. To date, no such offer has arrives. He will not be used in any kind of swap deal with Tottenham Hotspur for Harry Kane, as his intention is to leave the Premier League. It is understood that his preference would be to move to a LaLiga side.

Despite being one of the first players to return to pre-season training after his holidays, Pep didn't even bring him on in City's opening day loss to Spurs at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. His future remains up in the air.

 

Aymeric Laporte

 Aymeric Laporte is in a similar position. After losing his place in the starting line up, the centre back is willing to join a new side this summer and City are open to offers. However, given the current financial climate, there are not many clubs who could afford a player who signed for City for 65 million euros just three years ago.

His physical problems, lack of consistency and Pep's tendency to play a 'false nine' all led to him spending much of last season on the bench.

 His future will be determined by City's ability to sign another striker. In last Sunday's loss to Tottenham, and despite only training a few times, Gabriel Jesus was brought off the bench towards the end of the game. With Aguero's departure, Gabriel Jesus is now the only '9' in the squad.

Last Friday, Pep said "Gabriel is an important player for us, and he's played a key role in the squad since he joined". If City are unable to sign Tottenham's Harry Kane, it looks likely that the Brazilian forward will continue wearing sky blue for another season.
