The Brazilian Kenedy Nunes posted several offensive posts on social media

The club says the player's behaviour does not represent the entire team and does not align with their high expectations

Chelsea, reigning Premier League champions has apologised to the “people of China” after the Brazilian defender Kenedy Nunes published several videos that were disrespectful to the country. After the victory against Arsenal in Beijing, Kenedy posted several videos and short messages that criticised China.

The player wrote "Porra China" (“f***ing China”) in an Instagram post, accompanied by several laughing emoticons. In another post, Kenedy filmed a sleeping security guard and posted it with the message “China, wake up. Idiot”.

In an official statement, Chelsea said “Kenedy’s actions were a mistake that he will learn greatly from. His behaviour does not represent the entire team and does not align with the club’s high expectations and strict requirements of its young players. He has been strongly reprimanded and disciplined.

“Everyone at Chelsea Football Club has the utmost respect and admiration for China and loves our Chinese fans. It is because of this that the negative impact we have seen over the last two days has left us shocked and saddened. Once again, we sincerely apologise for the hurt caused to our Chinese fans as well as to the Chinese people.”
