Arsenal fans expressed their disappointment at being unable to sign Samuel Umtiti on social media. The French defender is heading to the United States with his teammates but the Premier League side are thinking about what could have been according to 'The Sun'.
Umtiti was seen as the ideal signing to improve their leaky defence but after spending all their cash on Nicolas Pepe, the €53m offer they produced simply wasn't enough for Barcelona.
"A new challenge"
Reports in France suggested Umtiti was "looking for a new challenge" but the player himself insists he wanted to remain at Barça. At the beginning of the season, Umtiti said: "I have a contract here and I'm happy at Barça."
"I had a complicated season but that isn't a reason to search for new challenges. I'll be at Barcelona next season."
One Arsenal fan said optimistically: "Maybe he's going to Miami via Heathrow?" Unfortunately not...
