The Atletico Madrid forward has said he feels half Uruguayan in the past

Uruguay striker Luis Suarez said in a press conference on Tuesday Antoine Griezmann, whose France side he will face in the World Cup quarterfinal, "doesn't know what it's like to feel Uruguayan."

Atletico Madrid forward Griezmann is close friends with Diego Godin, Suarez's international teammate. What's more, he's a lover of the South American drink 'mate' and Uruguayan -- 'charrúa' -- culture.

Sometimes, he even says he is half Uruguayan and he once went to meet Godin at the airport in Madrid wearing a Uruguay shirt.

"As much as he says he's half Uruguayan, Antoine is French and doesn't know what it's like to feel Uruguayan," Suarez said.

"He doesn't know the determination we have to succeed in football despite how few of us there [in Uruguay in comparison to other countries].

"He will have his habits and his way of speaking Uruguayan, but we feel it in another way."

Griezmann turned down the chance to join Suarez at Barcelona this summer, instead renewing his contract with Atletico Madrid in the Spanish capital.

The decision was taken in a novel way, with fans left in suspense until the end of a documentary which detailed the last few months of Griezmann's life, ending with him committing his future to Atletico.
