The former England international has hit out at Belgium and England having to play another match at the World Cup

Following England's semi-final exit at the World Cup in Russia, former England international striker Alan Shearer has today said that the Third Place match is "utter stupidity".

Here is his tweet:

Shearer, who is currently a pundit for the BBC, played for the 'Three Lions' between 1992 and 2000 scoring 30 goals in his 63 matches for the national team. He had positive words for England, led by Gareth Southgate, following their semi-final loss to Croatia after extra time.

"They've exceeded all expectations. Well done England and well done Gareth Southgate, they've been brilliant. They've found a system which gives us all hope," added Shearer after the defeat.
