Lanzini will miss the World Cup after getting injured in training

Argentina coach Jorge Sampaoli has chosen Enzo Perez to replace Manuel Perez, who was injured in training on Friday and will miss the World Cup in Russia this summer.

After waiting 24 hours to make his decision, Sampaoli finally opted for River Plate midfielder Perez to complete his 23-man squad for the finals.

Despite not being in a great moment of form, Perez won the battle to be included ahead of the other candidate, Guido Pizarro, thanks to his experience and his previous performances for Argentina.

Sampaoli also opted for Perez because he knows the group of players well given he was part of the squad which made the 2014 World Cup final in Brazil.

Perez will travel directly to Russia from Argentina to meet up with his international teammates, who left Barcelona on Saturday.

Other names linked with a call-up in the last 24 hours were Pizarro, Diego Perotti, Erik Lamela, Leandro Paredes and Pablo Pérez.
