Dembélé fails to take advantage of his chance to impress again
With Deschamps shuffling his back for the match against Denmark, Dembele struggled to impose him and as such is unlikely to be a starter in the next round
Once again Ousmane Dembele failed to show why he should be in Didier Deschamps preferred XI for France. The forward was a starter today and after seeing how Olivier Giroud forced his way into the coach's plans, this was a great opportunity for Dembele to do exactly the same. However the Barcelona man couldn't get into the match and is now much more likely to be on the bench when France face against Croatia.
The match against Denmark was circled in red ink for those players who haven't quite found their feet at this tournament to date. Dembele was one of those but, like the rest of the team, his performance was extremely dull.
The 'Mosquito' has all the tools to become a superstar but he still doesn't know what decisions he should be making on the pitch. He's only 21 and no doubt he'll keep learning along the way but at the moment he isn't producing good performances on a regular basis. In the first half against Denmark he only had two shots on goal and one of those went into Row Z.
In the second half he barely appeared and was eventually substituted for Mbappe in the 77th minute. Barcelona must be patient with him as there's enough in his actions to prove he's going to be a player who can make the difference in matches. France and Barça have a star on their hands but when he doesn't perform well, it isn't a crime to admit that either.
