Croatia were beaten by Peru in Miami on Friday

Barcelona midfielder Ivan Rakitic says Croatia "are still not in form" for the World Cup in Russia and "they have a lot to work on" after losing 2-0 to Peru in Miami on Friday.

"Today you've seen that we have a lot of things to work on, but there's still time before the World Cup," he told reporters in the mixed zone after the friendly defeat.

Rakitic said the focus now is on preparing well for Tuesday's game against Mexico, given that even though they "went out to beat" Peru and play well, in large parts of the game "it wasn't to be."

However, the Barça man assured that "it's not like the roof has fallen in" and wanted to highlight the importance of sticking together in the build up to Russia.

"[Peru] caught out out in both halves," he added. "We dominated but without having any clear chances to score."

Croatia are in a group with Lionel Messi's Argentina, Nigeria and Iceland at the World Cup.
