Adan will be backup to Jan Oblak at the Wanda Metropolitano

Antonio Adan will be confirmed as an Atletico Madrid player in the coming hours as he joins Diego Simeone's side from Real Betis.

The goalkeeper will sign a contract with the Rojiblancos until 2021 and Atletico will pay Betis a fee in the region of one million euros.

Adan had one year to run on his contract at Betis but the arrival of Pau Lopez from Espanyol coincides with his decision to return to Madrid, where he previously played for Real.

During Wednesday's presentation of Sergio Canales as a new Betis player, the Seville-based club's vice presdient Lorenzo Serra Ferrer referred to Adan's exit.

"The decision has been agreed upon," he said. "The coaching staff and the club have given their opinion. We have decidied and Adan has chosen the club where he wants to go -- we have helped and respected him."

Atletico have been in the market for a new No.2 to Jan Oblak following Miguel Angel Moya's move to Real Sociedad.

Adan had also been linked with a move to Barcelona in the case that Jasper Cillessen, the backup to Marc-Andre ter Stegen, is sold this summer.
