Angers open the door to sale of Moroccan star Ounahi with Barça keen
The Catalan club are one of several to be keeping an eye on the midfielder's situation
Impressing at the World Cup can lead to a leap in your club career. This has been the case for many of the World Cup's best performers over the years and it could be true for Moroccan midfielder Azzedine Ounahi.
Ounahi plays for French club Angers and they know his performances as Morocco have reached the semifinal have not gone unnoticed by bigger teams.
The midfielder's stock has risen and Angers are aware they will not be able to retain him. For that reason, Saïd Chabane, president of the Ligue 1 club, has already stated that he has spoken with the sporting committee to seek a contingency plan.
Speaking to RMC Sports, he commented that he knows Ounahi is likely to leave in January or June. At 22 years old, he has made himself known on the big stage in Qatar, captivating Spain coach Luis Enrique, who mentioned him above the rest of his teammates after Morocco eliminated La Roja.
"We have calls"
Chabane did not beat around the bush and explained that: "We expected this situation and we are preparing for it. We have already received some phone calls," without specifying which leagues they were from.
Barça interest
Ounahi's price will not be very high and Barça, always with an eye on the transfer market, could study the option of bringing him in during the next window.
And the French club's president is clear: "You can't keep a footballer who wants to leave."
There will be a lot of offers for the talented Moroccan who, to this day, has not yet considered his future. Instead, he is focused on Wednesday, when his country meet France for a place in the World Cup final.
