The now former Spain coach thanks the RFEF, his coaching staff, the team and the media for understanding his situation

The now-former Spain national team coach, Luis Enrique, has released a letter in which he thanks the RFEF, his coaching staff, the players and the media for the way his personal situation has been handled.

He wasn't able to attend the press conference which announced his stepping down from the role but he was able to release a statement.

"Due to the motives which have prevented me from working as normal as Spain's national team coach from March until now, I've decided to step down from my role.

I can't thank the RFEF enough for their trust and the continuous understanding they've shown me.

I'd especially like to thank everyone who forms part of my staff and the players for their professionalism. Not forgetting the media who have shown respect and privacy during this situation.

Luis Enrique Martínez García."
