The Frenchman is gaining ground to be the Uruguayan's replacement

Former France international Thierry Henry was among the favourites in French media to replace Gustavo Poyet as coach of Bordeaux after his sacking.

L'Equipe highlighted the option of Henry, saying the future owners of Bordeaux - an investment fund from the USA called GACP - want him. They are planning to buy the club for between 70-100 million euros.

France's top goalscorer of all time - 51 goals - has finished his contract with Belgium, where he worked as a No 2 to Roberto Martinez.

Le Parisien say that they want someone with experience - Jurgen Klinsmann or Laurent Blanc, who coached Bordeaux between 2007-10, with Remi Garde and Thierry Henry also options.

On Henry they said he is a "young coach with a glorious past, very attractive to the media."
