Jean-Clair Todibo finding maturity at Nice

Jean-Clair Todibo finding maturity at Nice

| sport

Jean-Clair Todibo showed flashes of quality during his time at FC Barcelona, which led to him making his name known in the world of international football. In France, many were already aware of his potential after his early days at Toulose, where he made it to the elite. However, outside of his 'home', he never really made a name for himself or gained a certain level of regularity.

But this was well known to the Nice management, who believed in him a couple of years ago, finally buying him from Barça for 8.5 million euros, plus 7 million euros more in variables.

This season, Todibo has shown that he has reached his footballing maturity, and is on an enviable run of form. Friday's 1-0 win over Monaco in the French southern derby only confirmed the suspicions about him. He beat a frustrated Balogun, who missed two penalties.

The French press stresses that he is "the best centre-back in Ligue 1 by far and the leader of a Nice team that is fighting for the top positions in the table", and they are already placing him with several big teams.

One of those who were already interested in him this summer was Manchester United, but Todibo decided to reject the 'red devils' in order not to "make a mistake", as he later revealed, and time has proven him right.

In Francesco Farioli's team, Todibo has become the lord and master of the centre-back, a life insurance for Marcin Bulka.

FC Barcelona still have a 20% stake in any future sale of the player. Todibo has a contract in 2027 but if he continues at this level, it is not unreasonable for him to start receiving offers from big clubs. United were offering 34 million.
