Julen Lopetegui's team suffered an away defeat to Elche at Estadio Martínez Valero on Saturday

Elche's 2-1 win over Seville on Saturday, was hard fought at Estadio Martínez Valero. With each team arriving on the back of a league defeat, they were both keen to pick up points. Elche were looking forward to meeting again after losing their last game 2-1 to Granada. Seville were beaten 2-0 in the previous match against Barcelona. As things stand, Elche are in 17th place on the table and has 24 points while Seville sit in 4th with 48 points after 26 matches.

After an uneventful first half, Elche continued to pile on the pressure the second half and were rewarded, beginning with a goal from Raul Guti, 70 minutes in. Later, Elche scored again and increased their advantage thanks to a goal from Guido Carrillo to make it 2-0. Seville pull-back thanks to a goal from Luuk De Jong in the 90th minute just before the final whistle to establish the 2-1 to hand victory to the hosts.

For Elche, Omenuke Mfulu, Josan, Diego Gonzalez and Luismi came on for Ivan Rakitic, Munir El Haddadi, Sergio Escudero, Jesus Navas and Papu Gomez, while Seville brought on Joan Jordan, Oliver Torres, Marcos Acuna, Suso and Youssef En-Nesyri to replace Ivan Rakitic, Munir El Haddadi, Sergio Escudero, Jesus Navas and Papu Gomez.

The referee booked Ivan Marcone, Lucas Boye, Antonio Barragan and Fidel for Elche.

Elche will next play Real Madrid away, with Seville facing Real Betis at home.
