Sevilla beat Real Valladolid 1-0 on Sunday to move ahead of Barcelona at the top of the LaLiga table by a single point.
Andre Silva scored the only goal of the game in the 30th minute, heading home after great play by Pablo Sarabia.
Valladolid had two great chances late on and two goals disallowed for offside as Pablo Machin's side hung on to record a narrow but important win.
After Barça and Atletico Madrid drew on Saturday, the win takes Sevilla to the top of the table with 26 points from their 13 games.
Ernesto Valverde's side have 25 points, while Atletico are a point further back on 24 in what is developing into one of the tightest title races in Spain's top flight in years.
