Eres Unal opened the scoring after just three minutes at the Estadio de la Ceramica, turning home Carlos Bacca's cross.
However, Getafe were handed a chance to equalise when Javi Fuego charged Djene inside the box in the 35th minute.
Penalty duties were handed to Angel Rodriguez, but Asenjo made a save to keep the home side ahead.
Getafe then had a second chance to get back in the game in the second hald when Jaume Costa tripped Jorge Molina.
This time Molina took responsibility but the outcome was the same: another Asenjo save.
The win temporarily lifts Villarreal into fifth, ahead of Sevilla who host Atletico later on Sunday, while Getafe remain 10th.
