The ground had been shut since the end of August due to safety fears

Madrid's local council have confirmed that Rayo Vallecano can re-open their stadium for this weekend's game against Alaves in La Liga.

Rayo's Vallecas home was shut before they were due to play Athletic Bilbao before the international break due to health and safety breaches.

"We have not identified any type of structural risks," says Madrid's council, adding that normal use of the stadium can resume.

Rayo's first home game of the season took place against Sevilla before the risks were identified on August 27, leading to the ground being shut down.

Their game against Athletic will have to be rearranged for a later date but they will be able to host Alaves this weekend in Spain's top flight.

Rayo won their first game since returning to La Liga last weekend, beating Huesca 1-0.
