Portu, Girona's best 'signing' of the summer window
He seemed set to join Sevilla but in the end stayed in Catalonia
Girona fans on Friday were very happy. As well as beating Villarreal 1-0 away, they also managed to keep forward Portu, who seemed poised to join Sevilla.
Negotiations between Girona and Sevilla broke up when the Catalan side insisted on Sevilla paying his buy-out clause of 20 million euros.
Girona were prepared for Portu to go, so much so they had lined up Getafe's Angel Rodriguez to replace him, but in the end they didn't have to.
Portu then, is Eusebio Sacristan's best signing this summer. He was not present at the Villarreal game as the club had given him the opportunity to negotiate with Sevilla for what looked to be an inevitable exit.
This summer Girona have reinforced with Marc Muniesa, Aleix García, Patrick Roberts and Seydou Doumbia among others, some on loan from Manchester City.
