Pique was banned for four matches for same insult as Diego Costa
The defender muttered the same comment against Athletic in the Super Cup once
With good reason, Gerard Pique went to Diego Costa to calm him down after being sent off for Atletico Madrid in their 2-0 loss to Barcelona on Saturday. The Barça defender knows the consequences a few out of place words can have.
Pique experienced a similar situation in the Spanish Super Cup against Athletic Club. Annoyed because he felt Aduriz should have been given offside, he went over to the assistant referee and said: “Me cago en tu Puta madre” [I s**t on your w***e mother].
It's the exact same insult which earned Costa his marching orders at Camp Nou on Saturday.
Pique's comments earned him an immediate red card and and he was banned for four games under Article 94 of the competition's regulations.
The Barça defender told Costa, as he ushered him off the pitch, to calm down and be quiet because his actions and words could lead to a lengthy ban.
