The Argentine coach has been replaced by Gaizka Garitano

Athletic Club Bilbao have confirmed the sacking of coach Eduardo Berizzo after just one win all season. With 14 games gone, the Basque side are in the relegation zone with just 11 points from a possible 42. Gaizka Garitano, until now in charge of the B team, will take over. He has previously coached Deportivo La Coruna and Eibar in La Liga.

Athletic are going through a difficult moment. Monday's 3-0 loss to Levante has led to a moment of inflexion in Bilbao. With almost half the season gone, the Rojiblancos have been incapable of winning since the first game of the season. They're 13 matches without a league win, an unwanted club record which led to the downfall of Berizzo.

On their official Twitter account, Athletic announced: "The club have decided to end coach Eduardo Berizzo's contract with the club. From Dec. 5, Gaizka Garitano will be responsible for the first team."

Garitano takes over from Berizzo having previously overseen the B team, Bilbao Athletic. They are currently eighth in the third tier, just four points of the playoffs. Two years ago, the coach born in Bilbao was in charge of Deportivo. Before that, his first experience in Spain's top flight was with Eibar.
