Muniain, Aduriz & Williams score as Athletic beat Real Sociedad in Basque derby

Athletic Club came from a goal down to beat Real Sociedad at the new San Mames for the first time since moving into the stadium.

It looked like La Real's romance with their rivals' new home would continue when David Zurutuza gave them the lead in Bilbao, but Ernesto Valverde's men fought back.

Iker Muniain levelled the score after the break with a fine effort, before the evergreen Aritz Aduriz edged his side in front with a classy chipped finish.

The game looked to be over when Inaki Williams scored Athletic's third, but Real Sociedad didn't give up.

Defender Inigo Martinez headed in a free-kick at the far post with just over five minutes remaining and Eusebio's men threw everything forward in search of an equaliser.

They came up short, though, as Athletic held on to win a memorable Basque derby.

Earlier on Sunday Alaves drew with Malaga. Deyverson scored for the Basque side, but Roberto Rosales scored in the 85th minute to earn a share of the spoils.

Both sides ended the game with 10 men as Theo Hernandez and Juanpi were sent off in stoppage time.
